The elite set of UK lawyers specialising in asbestos disease is growing, as two Plymouth solicitors have now achieved the status.
Partner James Walsh and associate lawyer John Messham, both of whom work for North Hill-based firm Wolferstans, have been nationally accredited as asbestos disease specialists by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). They are now among only 15 other lawyers with this status nationally.
The lawyers have combined experience amassing 50 years, and have handled hundreds of asbestos-related cases in that time, plymouthherald.co.uk reports.
The status confirms the solicitors as having achieved a high standard of ‘expertise, competence and excellence’ in asbestos-related disease litigation. This is most commonly in dealing with cases where clients currently suffer with or have passed away from mesothelioma as a result of someone else’s negligence.
APIL president John Spencer stated that the accreditation shows people who they can trust by highlighting the experts in such a specialised area of the law. This could certainly be said of Mr Walsh and Mr Messham who, throughout their careers, have recovered millions of pounds for sufferers and their families.
Mr Walsh said: “Our asbestos disease team has grown in the past decade. John and I are proud to achieve this national recognition and will continue to offer clients and their families the care and support they deserve.”
Asbestos is the single biggest work-related killer in the UK, killing 5,000 people a year on average, mirror.co.uk notes.
